An article published this month in AIDS and Behavior strongly rebuts claims that HIV does not cause AIDS, and argues that the AIDS denialist movement has been “disastrous,” costing “hundreds of thousands of lives” due to its influence on public policy.

The journal Medical Hypotheses is under review this October due to two recent articles that made false claims concerning HIV/AIDS. Owing to pressure from 20 HIV scientists and activists, publishing company Elsevier retracted the articles shortly after their publication in July.
The first article, entitled “HIV-AIDS hypothesis out of touch with South African AIDS – A new perspective,” argued that AIDS is not a problem in Africa and that antiretroviral drugs have not reduced patient mortality.
