AIDS Group Campaign Leads To Paper Retraction, Review of Medical Journal
The journal Medical Hypotheses is under review this October due to two recent articles that made false claims concerning HIV/AIDS. Owing to pressure from 20 HIV scientists and activists, publishing company Elsevier retracted the articles shortly after their publication in July.
The first article, entitled “HIV-AIDS hypothesis out of touch with South African AIDS – A new perspective,” argued that AIDS is not a problem in Africa and that antiretroviral drugs have not reduced patient mortality. The second, “AIDS denialism at the ministry of health,” states that epidemiological data in Italy do not support HIV as the cause of AIDS.
These publications are part of a broader campaign known as “AIDS denialism.” The movement seeks to convince people that the HIV virus is harmless and that treatment is therefore unnecessary.
Prominent scientists John Moore, one of the founders of AIDSTruth.org, an online organization created to combat AIDS denialism, and Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, who co-discovered HIV, each wrote to Elsevier objecting to the denialist articles.
Dr. Brian Foley, an HIV researcher at the HIV Databases at Los Alamos National Laboratory and a member of AIDSTruth.org, said that the journal Medical Hypotheses “[does]n’t have the same standards that other journals do.”
“I personally doubt that having Duesberg’s latest paper retracted from Medical Hypotheses will make any large dent in AIDS denial,” said Dr. Foley in email correspondence with The Beacon. “But we need to do all we can to keep this type of misinformation gaining the appearance of legitimacy, for example being published in ‘scientific’ journals.”
Senior vice president of Elsevier, Glen Campbell, reacted to the campaign by initiating an emergency retraction process. In his letter of response, he raised concerns about the articles’ scientific quality and their potential to damage global public health.
AIDSTruth.org has also requested that the National Science Library (NSL) consider Medical Hypotheses for deselection from MEDLINE, the authoritative listing source of scientific information.
In a letter signed by 20 leaders in the field, the journal was criticized for publishing these articles as well as for its lack of a review process. Most journals conduct peer review and have fellow scientists critique the validity of a submission. The paper is often sent back to the authors for follow-up improvements before it is accepted for publication.
While this process may take months, articles submitted to Medical Hypotheses are simply reviewed by the editor and are often published within days.
The authors of the letter believe the journal does not meet the NSL’s standards. The NSL has agreed to examine the case, and its Literature Selection Technical Review Committee will review the journal in October.

The Editor of Medical Hypotheses is quite vocal about the problems with peer review and the value of non-peer reviewed journals. Although the idea of an editorial review journal may seem good in concept, it has failed miserably at Medical Hypotheses. The Duesberg article is not the first AIDS Denialism paper published at Medical Hypotheses. Publishing the Duesberg paper makes the case against editorial review and reaffirms what we know: That peer review is not perfect but it is the best process we have for protecting the integrity of the scientific literature. Hopefully, Medical Hypotheses will correct course. If not, the journal should be terminated from all major indexing services and treated as a newsletter.

You boneheads all bit the big one, and swallowed it hook, line, and stinker. And then you think people like Seth Kalichman, who himself profits out of the public hiv research funds, has anything intelligent to offer. Check out his looney website. Nothing but an ad-hom attack site aimed at those who are trying to yank him and the others back out of the public’s pockets.
1) the years of high aids deaths are the EXACT YEARS that toxic high dose AZT was given to all positives who were first off scared, stressed and depressed into immune suppressing states of being after being given hopeless death sentences after testing positive on tests that were recalled and banned years ago.
2) Nancy Padian’s 10 year study of 160 pairs of hiv positives and their seronegative partners showed ZERO transmission of hiv to any hiv negative parters (even though 1/4th never used condoms). There is no existing proof of sexual transmission, except in your heads.
3) Just because doctors scare their patients to death with diagnoses of death, and just because gays stressed and doped themselves to death or were scared and drugged to death with AZT, and just because starving hopeless people in Africa are stressing and starving themselves to death, does NOT MEAN it has anything to do with the big sex boogeyman of HIV. Are you all a bunch of sexophobes or homophobes or racists? If not, then why do you believe the hiv crap for 25 years?
All of your herd mentality and willful common ignorance shows HOW RIGHT Elsevier was to put out the so-called “denialist” findings. Only problem is you goons are calling the wrong team denialists. Wanna see the denialists who are living under illusions of the sex boogeyman of death? Go look in the mirror, fools.
Read it and weep? http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig7/foye8.1.1.html
Obviously, the belief in hiv=aids is nothing more than underlying socialized homophobia, sexophobia, and racism beliefs that are disquised as science and medicine.
You boneheads all bit the big one!!! Hahahahahaaaaa
Mr. Geiger calls believers in orthodox HIV science homophobes and sexophobes and yet his “read it and weep” link shows that Mr. Geiger is the true homophobe:
“A bleeding-edge lifestyle, the harmonic convergence of three cultural revolutions, drug, sexual, and gay, took a heavy toll on its most sublime practitioners. They engaged in anonymous sex on an almost unheard of scale,…”
Those are the words from the link, Mr. Geiger. Have you pulled a Baker and posted a thread that undermines your arguement?
